Long Live The Box Shop: An Enduring Home for Artists
The Box Shop is entering an exciting new chapter.
After more than two decades in rented space in Bayview-Hunters Point, we are building a new home for The Box Shop at 1265 Van Dyke Avenue in the Bayview. At a time when artists and creative spaces are being pushed out of the Bay Area, this move gives The Box Shop a path toward long-term security and the chance to build a home designed for the artists and community we serve.
Securing the building is only the beginning. We are in the midst of transforming Van Dyke into a thriving art space and building the foundation for The Box Shop to endure for decades to come.
A gift to The Box Shop supports far more than one artist or one artwork. It sustains the creative infrastructure that enables hundreds of artists and countless works of art, while helping keep ambitious art creation possible in the Bay Area.

The warehouse metal and industrial
arts shop…
includes MIG and TIG welders, a CNC Plasma cutter, a Marvel band saw, large and small tube rollers, bench grinders, and a wide range of sheet metal shaping equipment: benders, rollers, English wheel, planishing hammers, brakes, and more.
Two of the Box Shop's latest additions are a shared electronics studio with a 3D printer and a machine shop with drill presses, a mill, a lathe, and associated tooling.
