Irene Shiori &
Leslie Lopez AKA Dime
LESLIE LOPEZ also known as Dime is a mama artist, a first generation xicana, a grafitera, and activist. She was born and raised in East Oakland CA, where she began painting murals and tagging graffiti as a preteen. Her self taught work bridges graffiti and fine arts, she’s well known for her hand-styles, funky graffiti letters, and beautiful fierce characters that blossom beyond a canvas. Her passion for culture work and social justice activism began in the Fruitvale District. She has painted community murals and led visual art projects throughout her city and internationally for 2 decades. Many of her powerful collaborations are painted with youth and joined in by an intergenerational audience. Dime exhibits around the globe in galleries, museums, apparel, print and fashion while remaining active in the neighborhoods she was raised in. She uses art to heal, and continues to bring her art, resources, and big heart to low income and underserved communities by organizing food drives, large projects and free events with her husband and children to give back and uplift the block.
She’s part of the original BSK graffiti crew, core member of the EastSide Arts Alliance, and a founding member of worldwide graffiti women crew Few and Far Women.
