Join us at the Box Shop’s January Open House as we kick off a new year with big visions for the future.

San Francisco and the Bay Area are losing creative spaces at a heartbreaking pace, but The Box Shop is fighting to stay, grow, and evolve.

For 23 years, The Box Shop has been a place where sparks fly at midnight, where impossible ideas become 50-foot sculptures, where murals sprawl across walls, where strangers become collaborators, and where collaborators become community.

But right now, we’re in the most critical moment in our history. In 2026, we’re moving to our new home on Van Dyke Avenue.

ART TABLE
Enjoy an art activity by Hallie McConlogue:

First timers to great artists, 3 years old to 103 - you are welcome. Come hang out with some art supplies and the SF art community. Hallie will give some expert tips. If you’re an expert, you’re welcome to share your skills or chill in your zone.

We will have some basic, drawing and watercolor painting materials available. Feel free to bring your fancy supplies if you want to and just hang out and do your art with others in the home of giant metal flame sculptures.

TOUR 130+ MURALS!
We commissioned local artists to paint more than 130 murals throughout the space. The Box Shop is one of the Bay Area's largest open-air mural art exhibits!

The Box Shop is a haven for metalworkers, stone carvers, seamstresses, painters, woodworkers, sculptors, bicycle engineers, electronic car producers, and more. Bring your questions and quench your curiosity.

SEE WHERE MASSIVE ART IS BORN!
Colossal structures are created at The Box Shop. Some become treasured public art, like Entwined Meadow - an installation in Golden Gate Park in the winters of 2020-2024. We’re also a Burning Man arts community hub. Dozens of Playa sculptures and art cars are built at The Box Shop. Check out the space, machinery, tools, and people that make this magic possible!
