The Box Shop Approved for $1.7M to Fund New Arts Space!

In March of this year, we asked our community, friends, and arts supporters to add their names to endorse a letter we wrote to California State Senator Wiener. In the letter, we asked him to help us in the effort to finance and purchase a new space to support our work and artistic community, as our current lease will end in 2024. This was the initial start to our capital campaign to [Save] The Box Shop.
The endorsements and comments were heard and acknowledged! We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Senator Wiener submitted our request package to the state budget that was just approved this week. The Box Shop was approved for $1.7 million in funding to help us purchase a new space! We are sincerely thankful to all of you, the Senator and his staff, and the State of California and are overjoyed to share the Senator’s press release here.
This is TREMENDOUSLY good news, as funding from the Senator’s budget initiates a giant leap forward to meet our funding goals to purchase a long-term home. So, with this enormous win, it gives us the opportunity to officially kick off our capital campaign.
Still, we need your support. A new property that has the space we need will cost us approximately $9+M. The Box Shop has been serving local artists and makers for 20 years. Our operation and service are critical to our creative community. And, as you likely know, there is no other place like the shop and studios in the Bay Area offering the space and needed equipment for industrial artists to do their work.
Our lease will be up in 2024, and we feel that purchasing a space of our own will be the only way to secure a long-term home on our terms.
