FLOWER POWER: Kid Art Mural Activity
As part of our Box Shop Mural Fest we are hosting an art making program for kids on Sunday June 12th from noon to 2PM. Your child will participate in a group art project which will be installed as an 4ft x 8ft mural at the Boxshop. All materials are supplied and we will have an art instructor to assist the kids. Kids of all ages are welcome to participate!
The BoxShop has prepared 200 metal flowers for kids to paint. Each flower is cut from steel and has been primed and ready for our little ones with non toxic paint. Kids and adults will paint each flower anyway they like adding a cut little face in the center.
We have created a stencil to paint over each flower to outline each petal.
Once the flower is painted we will pop rivet them to a prepared steel canvas. Each flower will be mounted loosely so that they can move a little in the wind. The goal is to cover the 4' x 8’ canvas with flowers and hang the work in the BoxShop garden and have it join the other works of art in the Box Shop Mural Project.
FLOWER POWER is an homage to the wonderful, vibrant art of Takashi Murakami!
Takashi Murakami is a Japanese artist that creates bold Pop Art, which often includes colourful, smiling flowers!
Murakami has created a systematic method of making appealing art which has been influenced by traditional Japanese painting, sci-fi, anime, and the commercial art market. He makes paintings, sculptures, and films which are populated by repeated motifs, colors and characters of his own creation. He now has a factory where his images are digitally created. Part of the reason for his digitization of images is to create the symmetrical and repeated patterns of images that are a huge part of Murakami’s aesthetic.
About the Box Shop Mural Fest
The Box Shop is hosting an ‘Official’ Mural Project opening celebration, Box Shop Mural Fest on June 11-12, 2022 and invites you to join us to view and celebrate over 80 colorful, beautiful mural installations covering the Box Shop’s exterior and inner yard in Bayview-Hunter’s Point, San Francisco!
This is a 100% free all ages event.
